Would you support my book? [Votes: 5] Updated periodically
I will periodically update this entry simply to make sure those who are interested, or, if they have read this entry and WOULD be interested, have a chance to read it and let me know. (I have a few new subscribers, too, who came on after I orignally posted this entry.
This is just a question of curiousity...okay, it's a survey with intent...to see if any of my Xanga Friends/subscribers would be willing to donate money to help me publish my book when it's finished. What I would do is put up one of those widgets that allows you to make a financial donation and I would use those funds to help supliment the cost of publishing my book.
The reason it would cost money is because, as many of you may remember for a long while ago, I plan to do the self-publishing option, which leaves me a lot more freedom for how I want to write my book and distribute it. And since I'm new to this whole topic of publshing, I felt it would be the best way for me to go. Now, if you donate money to help me afford the cost, you can be sure I'll come up with some sort of special discount or promo for you....that would only be fair and I don't want you to think I'd take your donations for granted.
Ultimately, if I get enough positive feedback on this idea, I'll look into actually setting up that donation widget. If not, I'll just find another means to fund the costs of self-publishing. This is TOTALLY an at-will sort of thing. But I want to know how much support I'll get and if it will be worth my while. If you just cannot afford to donate anything but would have liked to otherwise, I'll consider that a positive vote...
ANYWAY! Please let me know your thoughts - or alternative ideas to help me earn some extra cash - and I'll get my book pumped out as quickly as possible.
Thank you, EVERYONE, who has already offered their feedback and critiques and encouragement. It really makes writing easier to do and more exciting!
GOD BLESS!

Good luck! A unique idea.
@AnamcharaConcepts - Thank you. :) Now just to get my book done!
Hi Good Morning!Sounds like a great idea!Best wishes to u!
sadaboy india.
@SADABOY - Thanks, Sadaboy.
I am really hoping you are able to publish your book, but please understand that I can't invest in it right now. :( I wish I could man.
@galthouse - No worries. :) I appreciate the support as you're able to give it...in this case, in spirit. That works for me.
Sounds like an awesome idea. Wish I wasn't a college student, lol (then I might have extra money =D). Although as a personally aspiring author, I know it's tough to get these things done - so I promise at least a little monetary support one you're finished!
@SerenaDante - Thank you, Serena. :) But you don't have to promise anything. When the time comes, if you can give and want to, then by all means, go on ahead. :) But until then, I would not hold you to anything that, given your current situation, you cannot guarentee. Not yet, anyway. What's your book going to be about?
@NaitoOfNarnia - Haha. Fantasy stuff, knights in shining armor, that sort of thing. Except cooler ;D Heehee.
@SerenaDante - Cooler than my book? Oh let's get it ON!!! lol ...oh...wait...you mean cooler than mere knights and fantasy stuff. :P
Wow, I wonder how many of us are currently engaged in writing a book right now. Best wishes with yours, I trust all of your supporters will get a free e-copy...
@NaitoOfNarnia - Haha, yep! =D
@Esbartman - LOL Nice try. Well, I was thinking about what sort of "special offer" to give...maybe a discount or a personalize autographed copy. Or both.
@SerenaDante - Wanna email me a sampling of your work? Or is it going to stay private for now?
Maybe you could sell advance copies?
@NaitoOfNarnia - It's private for now, but only because I started writing this when I was 12. So even though I've been changing it over the years, it still needs huge major editting, and I think I'd be really embarrassed to have anyone read it right now >.<
@Esbartman - Well, when I go with the self-publishing company I plan to get my books printed through, my customers will ultimately be buying my book through them (or throuh the bookstores and other sources...big whole list of options). What I can do, though, is order a bunch of books for myself so I get them in hand before my prospective customers. Then I can do the personalize autograph deal and have my customers pay me directly.
It sounds like you've got a plan. Do you mind if I ask who you're publishing with?
@SerenaDante - That's understandable. But if it were me, you'd not have to worry. I'm a gentle critic. I look for things to offer support and improvement. I don't go off saying, "Well that was just stupid." So not my way.
@SerenaDante - I started writing my first book in 1980. I was 15. I have abandoned that book (and several others over the years). I am impressed that you have nurtured your book for so many years. Good luck with it.
@Esbartman - XulonPress.com. They are spendy, but well worth it. So far they have the best book printing/publishing/distribution/advertising packages around. They are strictly for Christian-oriented material, but since my book is basically Christian fantasy, it works for me.
@Esbartman - You should pick your book back up again. With so many started, I would think it'd be a shame to not finish them.
Thanks, I don't know if they would look at anything I have, but I appreciate the info.
Thanks for the encouragement, I write mostly short stories. I seem to be better suited to that (I actually finish these). However, I usually do have some sort of novel that I am working on or thinking about all the time...
@Esbartman - It's not like a regular publisher where you have to wait for them to accept or reject your book. A self-publishing company, though the name of this type of route may sound contradictory, simply prints your book and may offer other services for an up-front fee. You supply the material and the money, they supply the printing and other deals. Various self-publishing companies typically - as per my research - will allow you to set the retail price which will, based on the number of pages in your book, etc, determine the wholesale (or is it the other way around?). Of course you will get a percentage of the royalty for the sales, and part of the printing fee will come out of that royalty. All in all, depending on who you go with, it's an excellent deal.
